Hurricane Michael –
Mexico Beach

On October 10, 2018, Hurricane Michael devastated the Florida Panhandle and the “Forgotten Coast”.  With sustained winds of 160 mph the storm was classified as a Category 5, and the combination of wind and storm surge literally flattened large portions of Mexico Beach, Tyndall Air Force Base and Lynn Haven.  As with every natural disaster, it tends to bring out the best in people, and the cleanup efforts have been tremendous.

As people begin to consider re-building, the first thing the Cities are tasked with is ensuring that the utilities are functioning properly.  This means power is restored, water is being conveyed properly and is safe to drink, and sanitary sewer is conveyed and treated as it should be.  Gulf Coast Underground answered the call and assisted with wastewater collection system cleaning, investigation and rehabilitation.  In Mexico Beach, GCU completed mainline and lateral line camera and cleaning, while also completing mainline and lateral line liner to restore the structural integrity of the pipes thus ensuring that when the homesites are rebuilt, their sewer is fully functional.  In Lynn Haven, it was more of the same. We’re proud of the positive impact we were able to make in these communities.
